NAME & GRADUATION YEAR:
Racquel McBay ‘14
Major/Minor:
Communications
WHO YOU ARE:
I am a 24-year-old TCU graduate from Dallas, Texas with a passion for leading young adults in discovering and unleashing their maximal potential. The gifts and skills that I've been blessed with ignited the spark to start my own college readiness program for high school students, R.E.A.D.Y., which prepares juniors and seniors for the life after high school transition. I am a speaker, and a mentor. I am dreamer. A believer. And most of all a purple Horned Frog!
BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT SINCE GRADUATION:
On May 10th, 2014 I graduated from TCU, and on May 19th I arrived in Orlando, Florida for my first "big girl job" working for The Walt Disney College Program. I developed the courage to move away from my comfort zone in Texas and jumped out on faith to explore something new in a totally new world. Working for the mouse had its ups and downs, but to this day, it's a huge accomplishment because I trusted in myself, developed my craft, met awesome friends, and even my fiancé whom I'm marrying in 5 months!
FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING A TCU ALUMNA:
My favorite thing about being a TCU Alumni is that I am a TCU Alumna. College was always something that I wanted to check off my list, but in high school, getting there was the biggest challenge. My mom never got the chance to finish college, but through the Community Scholars Program, I have a check next to "receive a quality education." It is the respect and power behind the TCU name when you tell someone where you received your education from. There are so many powerful leaders in our community that have come from TCU, and there are so many emerging leaders from my class and beyond. It is a small knit family and it is home.
FAVORITE MEMORY WHILE IN SCHOOL AT TCU:
I have so many great memories, accomplishments, and defining moments that have made me the woman I am today. I have several memories that replay in my mind, but a favorite is, of course, walking across the stage with Chancellor Boschini handing me my diploma after 4 years of hard work and faith. All of my fellow graduates sat on the football field, sweating under our robes from the heat, but not at all distracted or concerned because we knew what the moment meant and how vivid the memory would still be. Our families were cheering, graduates were cheering and crying, and I felt like the best person in the world!
WHERE CAN YOU BE FOUND ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON:
On most Saturday afternoons, you can find me with a nervous high school student or parent who is overwhelmed with timelines and deadlines, and needing guidance in how to navigate the college application process. Saturday is my go-to day to work with others or run errands, and if I'm not doing that, I'm at a movie or in bed watching movies.
