Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Nurse, Fitness Fanatic, Pizza Addict, Traveler, and Die-Hard TCU Fan.
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. The nursing program and, of course, the gorgeous campus brought me to Fort Worth, Texas to attend TCU. I was accepted into TCU’s Nursing Program as a freshman in 2011 and graduated with my BSN in December 2015. I was part of the Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity at TCU and made all my life-long friends on this campus! After graduating from TCU, I went on to pass my Nursing Boards and received my Registered Nurse title. This accomplishment is dear to my heart because there was a time during college that I did not know if I would be able to finish my degree.
After my sophomore year of college, I participated in the Summer Study Abroad Program through TCU and, sadly, was involved in an accident. I suffered devastating injuries that required me to have emergency surgery and spend three weeks recovering in the hospital in Switzerland. I was told that I had an 85% chance that my right leg would have to be amputated due to the severity of the accident. I immediately thought that I would never be able to live my dream of becoming a nurse. When I finally arrived back in the U.S., I began my recovery process. My doctor did not want me to return to school for at least a year, but I knew that I could not let that happen.
After taking one semester off from school, I returned to TCU and was able to graduate a semester later than planned. Currently, I am working as a Nurse in the Operating Room at Texas Health Resources Fort Worth. It was difficult coming back to school, but TCU’s sense of community and the nursing faculty helped to push me to graduate and finish my degree. TCU was more than just my school for those four years, it will forever be my home and it made me into person that I am today.
What is your biggest accomplishment since graduation?
Graduating with my BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing) from TCU, passing my Nursing Boards (the NCLEX), and becoming a Registered Nurse. My other biggest accomplishment: convincing my little sister to attend TCU. Go Frogs!
What is your favorite thing about being a TCU Alumni?
I am extremely proud to be a TCU Alum, and I love that they are many opportunities to stay involved with the TCU community. I enjoy going to all the different sporting events (I currently have season tickets for TCU football), and still try and make it out to the Tree Light Ceremony in The Commons for the holidays!
What is your favorite memory while at TCU?
My favorite memory was being able to be the first graduating class in the new Schollmaier Arena and to be a part of the rowdy nursing celebration that consisted of throwing confetti, beach balls, and silly string.
How has TCU prepared you for post-graduate life?
TCU’s nursing program helped to prepare me to not only transition from a student nurse to a registered nurse, but facilitated me in becoming successful in passing the NCLEX after graduation. I also feel that TCU has prepared me to be a leader in my field and has provided me with an amazing education that has helped me to feel confident as a new nurse.
Where can you be found on a Saturday afternoon?
During TCU football season: At a TCU Football game, of course! TCU Football off-season: If I am not at work, you can find me either at TCU’s Recreation Center or adventuring around Fort Worth! I am an extremely active person and love to be outside. Fort Worth is a unique and fun city that I enjoy being a part of!
