Tim Halperin '10
Singer and songwriter Tim Halperin '10 graduated from TCU in May 2010 with a degree from the Neeley School and went to work in earnest on his rising music career. But even with his busy concert tour, there have been multiple Tim Halperin sightings at TCU—landing from a helicopter, jumping into Frog Fountain, dancing on the empty Amon G. Carter Stadium field, body-surfing with students in the College of Communication, signing with a deaf education class, and singing the national anthem. These appearances and more have all been due to a donation Tim made to TCU—the gift of a song.
Tim was asked by Ann Louden, Chancellor's Associate for External Relations and Chair of TCU's "Frogs for the Cure" committee, to compose and record the song "We Fight Back" using words and testimonials from breast cancer survivors. Given the seemingly impossible task of creating a song that contains meaningful lyrics set to a dance tempo, Tim finished the project in just five days. Moved by these stories, Tim decided to place "We Fight Back" on iTunes with .70 cents of each download going to Komen for the Cure. Taken with Tim's musical talent, Komen officials responded by asking him to sing the national anthem at the Dallas Race for the Cure on October 16 and by featuring the "We Fight Back" song to open the race of 30,000 runners.
Epic Helicopters ferried Tim from Fort Worth to Dallas, where Fox News 4 followed him throughout the morning. His helicopter return to Fort Worth for TCU's game, national anthem, halftime video and postgame concert left Tim exhausted but exhilarated. "October 16 was the best day in Tim Halperin's life," said Tim . . . at least for now.
